BeBe and CeCe Winans’ coming-of-age story in “Born for This: The Musical” hits the Broad Theater Featuring Nita Whitaker

Born for This, which opens the Eli and Edythe Broad Stage 2017-18 theater season on Tuesday and runs through Aug. 6, is a new coming-of-age musical. It follows the story of how BeBe and CeCe Winans rocketed to televangical superstardom and then crossed over to the mainstream with hits like Addictive Love and the Staple Singers’ cover I’ll Take You There, featuring Mavis Staples.

While there’s a sprinkling of music to inspire a reaction from those who have followed the duo’s career, the bio-musical features mostly original songs by the six-time Grammy-winning artist born Benjamin Winans to the Detroit-based first family of gospel music.”
